Actually it was more like 5,000 Greeks. The Spartans only stayed to give the others time to retreat when the Persians surrounded them. There was also a sea battle going on at the same time as Thermopylae. It wasn't just 300 Spartans that fought against the Persians.

Umm sorry to burst your bubble but uhhh here's the facts: There were around 300 or more warriors: 301 were spartan (300 were kings guards and 1 was the king) there was around 600 - 10,000 others but they were not trained soldiers and had jobs like blacksmiths. There were from 300,000 to over 1,000,000 Persians. I think the greek held out for around 3 days but the persians found a way around Thermopylae. There was also naval battles during Thermopylae to the north-east.

actually, 300 spartans did, fight the persians, but this movie is based off a graphic novel which, in a way depicts the battle, but there was plenty of changes from the real thing. One of them being that the traito was a humback and not a farmer

there were about 300 spartans who stayed and fought, but they only stayed to give time so the other people could escape but there was a man who betrayed the spartans and told the persians the plan, then all the spartans found out and new that they were all gonna die, so they stayed and fought
mean while there was a naval battle some where in the north east so now they are remembered because their courage and bravery, as the 300 spartans

okay for all of u people who think ur know everything 300 hundred spartans did not go out to give the other people time in sparta to escape and the king and they didnt stay and fight jus cause they realized they were going to die either they stayed because the king was going to have to die in order for the spartans to be able to bring out their army. if u dont beleive me look it up
