Sure, bellydance is easy to learn. But it's difficult to master, as the legions of pasty, rhythmless sows flailing to that one Loreena McKennitt song in cheap Walmart-spun pseudo-gypsy garb at your local Renaissance Faire or Pagan Pride Day can testify to. I'm guessing your "friend" is one of those. 'Cause they all claim to dance as well as or better than Shakira, generally because she's the only dancer they can name.

It's really not that hard... I love Shakira and she dances REALLY well... but this really isn't true belly dancing. It's very simple. Just practice chest and hip isolations and you got it.
