They may be running on empty... but they still manage to get what they want, unlike the American public. It's a crises of government. The government is ours, by and for the people. How is it that a significant majority of US citizens was against the bailout, wants out of Iraq, wants a better health care system... yet none of these things happen. Is our democracy still functional?

A few corrections. 1) Naomi Klein is everything but an impediment to real debate. She has different ideas from the ones you hear on TV. Isn't that central to what makes for REAL debate, differing ideas? 2) Both her and Chompsky aren't talking about conspiracies in the Illuminati sense of the word. They just analyze power politics. 3) Central to the "Shock Doctrine" thesis is that the disasters don't have to be man made. People just recognize how to take advantage of them when they occur.

a sea of right wing think tanks? like there is an absences of left wing think tanks? That comment is parallel with the sewage on every page of "Shock Doctrine." Oh how i wish Milton were still here to dominate this idiocy.
Her book does ... ( 1 month ago by riveternite)
Her book does create debate. I will be an example: In 1970 the Vietnam war spilled(our bombing) into Cambodia and a crazy Junta General took Prince Sihanook's place and the country went from stable to bust. The commies used the void. Completely. Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge wanted to wipe everything clean, erase and start society from scratch based on a very misguided Maoist model. Shocks can work both ways. Unfortunately US did not mean for it to go this way. Woops! There goes another US col/damage!
I can't stand Naomi ... ( 1 month ago by grazie55555)
I can't stand Naomi Klein, but as someone who appreciates a lot of what Chomsky says I completely agree with you. Chomsky makes perfect sense right up until he claims it is "all happening intentionally". That's oversimplifying the issue. There are certainly areas where it is correct, but to paint the whole thing with one brush is preventing real understanding and change.
The labour theory ... ( 1 month ago by Guncriminal)
The labour theory of value does not explain the value disparity between products which have had the same amount of labour applied, yet are not valued the same, nor does it take supply and demand into account. This is why it fails when put into practice.
People aren't ... ( 1 month ago by Guncriminal)
People aren't usually shot in the head under capitalism unless they're in the process of murder or armed robbery or the international equivalent of it. I can safely testify to that.

CAPITALISM is a fantasy economic situation. It's like you have and do not have it's like an illusion who gives you some money to live but never a real richness -with few exceptions, to justify Capitalism existence- so they make you dream but with dreams you do not eat!!

Sounds good, I agree the credit crunch and current bail out policy are a sham and a con. Hegemonic policy to control us all via a spoof recession:) How can you bail out a downturn anyway, you either have it or you dont have it? New deal was founded on necessity in 1930, this credit crunch is just a load of re-spoking the wheel. PCM

Is she serious? She really believes that wars and crises have been used to institute limited government and economic liberalization? I encourage everyone to watch this series and then research the points found within.

You're right. No crisis has ever resulted in liberalisation. The only responses have been towards further government expansion. It's evident in everything from the response to 9/11 to current credit crunch.

'America' is well ... ( 2 weeks ago by damnbeavers84)
'America' is well liked (for holidays, open spaces, etc) - its the paradigm of rampant doctrinaire capitalism and greed that is despised by many. People want simple reward for their efforts with no slight of hand by the financial 'masters of the universe'. OK, it naeive but you can understand it. Confuse that with flagburning and you are simply displaying a lack of mental flexibility. Simple.
