the band he had assembled was not ready for some of the songs that Jimi threw out. They had a set list that they had practiced but he deviated and basically carried this entire performance on his own....think about that. During his improv you can hear the band attempt to chime in and then quit until he goes into villanova and yells out to Bill Cox "E" as in what key it was in
