I wish people would listen to Friedman, instead of getting onto the anti-capitalism bandwagon. Too bad people choose 'sexy' politics, instead of rational politics... argh.

How is it that you can't understand something so simple? I guess you would have to be something slightly less than simple minded? Tell me who got rich under castro's economic model in cuba? Only one man....Fidel. Don't hate the playa or the game. learn it...love it...and prosper. Freedom rocks!
Capitalism is ... ( 4 weeks ago by LijamGerrie)
Capitalism is deeply rooted on occupation & driven by slavery. Capitalism needs no doctrine, ideology, philosophy or theory. There's nothing "free market" about invading, uprooting, looting & enslaving millions of people for the profit of a very few.
Capitalism is about slavery, occupation, exploitation & profits. The more the slaves, the more the profit.
Victors right the rules of capitalism & victims play by the victors rules. Prying on the weak & the defenseless, keeps capitalism going.

people have more freedom under capitalist countries than any other economic and political system. If you don't believe that then go live in a country where capitalism doesn't exist.
Slavery existed everywhere in the world untill capitalism began to develop the world. In fact, capitalism helped end slavery. Slavery is very inefficient in a capitalist system.

I agree. Critics of capitalism should spend some time in a country like.. the Soviet Union. Besides the lack of freedom for the intellectual and his ideas, there's also the poor standard of leaving.

and airlines, all over the world, post- privatisation? and waterworks in post- apartheid Africa? Screwed over the health of everybody who couldn't afford it. Which was... a pretty huge proportion of the population. And Telstra in Australia has become a joke post- privatisation. And, also, I the current financial crisis caused the U.S. and England more or less nationalise the banks, which is pretty much against the whole PRIVATISATION IS ALWAYS BETTER thing.

hara001 said: Free market is considered the ennemy in almost every country except the united states, hong kong, singapore, Canada, UK and australia - the old british empire. This is why, these countries top the world in quality of life. Precisely because they understand the free market = prosperity. No, those countries are rich because they didn't embrace free market principles until their economies developed.

And with socialism we all adhere to the state. YOUR AN IDIOT. NAOMI IS AN IDIOT. The beauty of capitalism is that even the poor can live relatively high standards of living if they make good choices. Wealth is not a zero sum!!! Stop thinking that there are winners and losers!!! Where do you think Bill Gates money is going toward? You need to start living in the real world.

Is invading, enslaving, disaplacing, looting & depriving native people from thier land, "high standards of living" capitalism have to offer?

We are always ... ( 1 week ago by kultimat)
We are always adhering to the state, as long as we're not living in a state of anarchy. Looking at USA, it's striking how fast communism has been replaced by socialism as an anti-polar to capitalism. While figuering out how to solve the present financial crisis the economy strategists look to socialism for answers. The state is always there, it's just an expansion of the state. And if you're affraid of the state, then the system is all wrong. "Please, be more constructive with your feedback"
It's not like I'm ... ( 1 week ago by tag385)
It's not like I'm afraid of the state, I simply HATE the state. I know it is a necessary evil and it should only be there as a referee and not a player. I'm not for anarchy, I understand we need government to make sure people are playing by the rules and there is no unfair advantages to particular individuals. It is there to ensure procedural equality. (every one can vote, courts, etc.) My problem is when the government tries to solve situational equality and it ends up screwing everybody over.
Situational ... ( 1 week ago by tag385)
Situational equality is just a fact of life. If we were all equal, then we would all be robots. People make choices that dictate the quality of their lives. I know people fall on hard times and that people should help their fellow human beings. However, it should be done through private charity and not the federal government. I donate a lot of money to charity, I'm not some heartless a-hole. I believe what I believe because of practical reasons. Think outside the box, think outside the state.

Klein needs to be jailed. She is publicly espousing and supporting the concept of stealing other peoples assets. People own shares of Exxon. She espouses NATIONALIZATION of all things. That's pure communism, and is the same old rhetoric that Marx and Lenin fooled people with. Appealing to public sentiment. She should be dealt with accordingly (Jailed)
Pardon me but isnt ... ( 1 week ago by krissy4nik)
Pardon me but isnt that the same thing that these corporations ask of us. Money is stolen from everyday working Americans and given to industries. It is pretty much a reverse robin hood and honestly I find it more noble to steal from the rich and give to the poor than the alternative. If Klien should be jailed for her suggestions then so should "Fanny" and "Freddie".
Of course they ... ( 1 week ago by AirelonTrading)
Of course they should. Adam Smith DESPISED governments in bed with corporations. It's the "Wealth of Nations" "East India Trading Company" all over again. But the evil that Smith saw as the East India Trading Company, did not carry over into other corporations. He adored and created capitalism as we know it. The portion Smith saw as far as the Govt is not to 'get out' as Friedman preached, but he wanted them to protect the citizens from the looters.

The problem is with ... ( 1 week ago by krissy4nik)
The problem is with some corporations ( we done know how many) is that these corporations are devouring the more honest corporations through mergers because they have the finances and the power. So if this system is going to work ( and unlike klien i believe it can) we need regulations and requirements. I still think her aim is admirable and she makes many good points.
The only point I'd ... ( 1 week ago by AirelonTrading)
The only point I'd disagree here, is that it's pretty easy to determine who is doing what. But then again, I'm an investor, and I do that full time. It's why XOM is not in my portfolio, and neither is Walmart. But other than that? I agree completely. A government is supposed to protect it's citizens. That's all. That's all Adam Smith preached in the "Wealth of Nations". He hated when Govt tried to play "merchant".

No, she needs jailed for encouraging the public to steal from others. In the United States, if you encourage others to commit a crime, then you're guilty of a crime. And WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD is a Canadian trying to dictate U.S. Policy? There's a ticket to persona non grata
