A Halloween tidbit: Billy Bob Thornton has a recording studio in his basement, Warren Zevon & others have recorded there. "The Cave", the name of the studio, used to be a speakeasy during the Roaring '20s. Now, it's a cozy recording studio, built originally by Slash of Velvet Revolver. Specifically, says Thornton, it is Zevon's spirit that dwells in The Cave.

It is possible he was diagnosed much earlier and didn't tell anyone until, after a few years of fighting, he got the bad news that there was nothing left to be done and it was terminal. Only then did he go public. We may never know the whole story. You can't listen to this song and not hear his pain, anger and humor all at the same time

Man, when I first heard this when I was younger, I thought it was funny...when I realized how serious this actually was, I felt bad, I still kinda do today...but at least I can now appreciate this song.

I'm a bit dissapointed now because I see the song is all about pain and suffering and therefore I suppose "excusable". I just got to like it as a song anyway. Maybe I'm just a dirty bastard that likes earthy lyrics. To me it has meaning regardless of not having an illness because that's how I can feel with life sometimes anyway. Espescially when I get sick of hearing shit like just for example. "how sweet it is to be loved by you". I mean all that dross and gloss pop music.With no substance.

My thoughts exactly...Warren definitely wrote songs about stuff that was hard hitting, meaningful, thoughtful, and applicable to almost everyone in the world. You can only enjoy love songs at certain times but this kind of music sticks with you.
